Learning Goal: I’m working on a nursing discussion question and need support to help me learn.

The student was asked to find a scholarly journal article and apple steps of critical analysis. We need to respond with substantive comment to enhance their response. Ensure to use APA 7th edition citation/references. Below is what the students critical analysis and reference.

1. Identify the elements or processes of the study

Gohel et al. (2018) described that the trial was conducted at 20 centers in the United Kingdom, they randomly assigned 450 patients with venous leg ulcers to receive compression therapy and undergo early endo-venous ablation of superficial venous reflux within 2 weeks after randomization (early-intervention group) or to receive compression therapy alone, with consideration of endo-venous ablation deferred until after the ulcer was healed or until 6 months after randomization if the ulcer was unhealed (deferred-intervention group).

1. Determine the study’s strengths and weaknesses

Strengths include randomization. Gohel et al. (2018) described that Treatment assignment was concealed and participants were randomly assigned, in a 1:1 ratio, to receive compression therapy and undergo early endo-venous ablation.

Limitations included considerable variations among centers, the most notable of which was the choice of endo-venous treatment method, variations were noted in the superficial veins that were refluxing and the presence and extent of deep venous reflux, and follow-up duplex ultrasonography at 6 weeks after the intervention was required only in the early-intervention group; this could have led to more repeat procedures and a higher rate of procedural success in that group than in the deferred-intervention group.

1. Evaluating the credibility, trustworthiness, and mean­ing of the study

The study was supported by the National Institute of Heath Research instilling credibility and trustworthiness in the study. The meaning of the study was relevant because venous disease is the most common cause of leg ulceration and treating the underlying cause is important (Gohel et al., 2018)
