Online Presence

Learning Goal: I’m working on a communications multi-part question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.

This a 3-part Question. First, I need the initial discussion post completed using in-text citations and a reference list. In addition, please respond to the two discussion response labeled 2 & 3 using in-text citations and a reference list. I currently work for a law firm you can look up common law firm digital engagement policies. Also, I have attached zip file with the weekly course materials.

1. Initial Discussion Question:

Online Presence

Your weekly materials emphasize the importance of a strong digital engagement policy. Your organization’s online presence plays a major role in shaping the company’s brand and reputation. As Laura Brown reminds us, your primary objective in using social media is to provide value for anyone looking to do business with you. For the policy to be effective, however, you and your colleagues must be aligned around it.

Considering the course materials for this week, reflect on your current or most recent organization’s digital engagement. Use the prompts below to organize your thoughts:

  • Does your organization have a digital engagement policy? If so, how effective is it? If not, how should the organization create one?
  • In what ways does your own professional online presence align with that of your organization?
  • How do you use social media to promote your own personal brand? How often do you update your accounts with accomplishments or newsworthy developments?
  • What topics do you post about or comment on most frequently? What topics do you avoid posting about or commenting on? Explain why.
  • After completing this course, what do you plan to change about your presence on social media?
  • Watch the LinkedIn Learning videos below:

RE: Week 9 Discussion

Does your organization have a digital engagement policy? If so, how effective is it? If not, how should the organization create one?

I abandoned the employee status over 25 years ago to become a contractor/solopreneur. I understand that such policies in place should discourage poor image management.

Like a sponge in this week’s lessons, I am in agreement with Samanta Pyle on creating a social policy and evolving, letting it transition with growth, and becoming the ambassador of the brand.

In what ways does your own professional online presence align with that of your organization?

It is my belief to always remember your core ethics and values by demonstrating them to the point that it has become a part of each aspect of your life. Because I am self-employed, my online presence is one and the same, but I rarely post or comment because privacy is needed for many clients (JWI505, 9).

How do you use social media to promote your own personal brand? How often do you update your accounts with accomplishments or newsworthy developments?

My approach to being visual on social media is that you open yourself up to opportunities for scrutiny. I am primarily concerned with developing my academic abilities rather than my involvement in particular industries relating to my personal brand.

What topics do you post about or comment on most frequently? What topics do you avoid posting about or commenting on? Explain why.

To share an aggregate view of providing affirmations and alternative thought practices to resolving life challenges based on Satay Nadella of Microsoft Corporation’s “Compete with Passion.”

The road to academic success has met with many challenging obstacles. Still, If you share your struggle honestly, others can often relate to it, and they see themselves somewhere in that, which could restore a little bit of their confidence.

After completing this course, what do you plan to change about your presence on social media?

Resign from all social media platforms, develop the brand I want to give to the world, and release an improved version that would be compliant and consistent across all chosen platforms—leading to a growth-oriented culture in the workplace.

RE: Week 9 Discussion

My organization does not have a digital engagement policy. I think that creating a digital engagement policy would be beneficial for the company as it would ensure that the company’s image is never compromised by employees (JWI505, 1). As noted by Welsh (2) social media is a powerful tool that can impact people’s perceptions. Our company does not rely greatly on digital platforms to market its products, however, I do think that a policy to regulate behaviors when using digital platforms.

My own professional online presence aligns with that of my organization in that I do not post any content that could be sensitive such as political views or personal opinion on sensitive topics. I ensure that the content I post on platforms such as LinkedIn align with the purpose of that particular platform.

Currently, I do not use social media much. I do think that I will use each different social platform accordingly once I have established my own business.

I do not comment on political views or sensitive topics because I understand how such statements can evoke emotions and sometimes, they could associate my commentary to the organization I work for. As noted in this week’s notes, we should remember that once something is posted online it is similar to being written in ink and their effects cannot be retracted (JWI505, 1).

After completing this course, I will use each digital platform strategically when promoting my business and remain cognizant of the ripple effects that can potentially arise as a result of my social media activity.
